Council Chairman’s Remarks at the Congregational Meeting held on Monday, November 29, 2021
John 1:5 – The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Isaiah 9:2 – The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.
Another year has come and gone under the constant Covid talk. Second wave, third wave, fourth wave. Variants and vaccines, masks and sanitizers, physical and social distance, internet searches on how vaccines are made, passports and restrictions, arguments amid friends, families, neighbours, inside of church buildings, outside church gatherings and that is just in our little town of Aylmer!
The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it!
What a wonderful message we heard yesterday and we can rejoice even in these “dark” times.
Look back at the last year and reflect on how ACRC has been a light. Cadets attendance at an all-time high. Gems had to cap registration due to safe space and leader availability. Coffee Break is running again. Elders are communicating with their districts, Senior Pastor Search Committee continues evaluating and interviewing candidates, CRL has done exhaustive studies in our church and community, Catechism is meeting, Youth Group, and Teen Club are meeting regularly, Sunday School is meeting every Sunday.
The regular standing council committees are also meeting and working hard. These are the committee’s that are currently meeting, Exec, Elders, Deacons, BA, Care Team, Ed, Library, Nursery, Search, Staff Relations, Stewardship, Worship, Worship Director Search and Youth Council. All these are staffed with volunteers. We also have our paid staff of Louis, Teresa, Bill, Rose and Janina. Working hard to minister, clean, teach, calculate and support the congregation in the office of the church building.
We have seen an increase in attendance over the last few months but it is noted that there are some that are still absent. I want to encourage everyone to come back. We have worked hard to create a safe space to worship and you are missed. I am willing to meet with anyone that wants to come to worship with us in person but has concerns. Talk to me and let’s see what we can figure out.
Thank you to all those who make regular worship happen. Tech people out back, attendance takers, Adrian Weesjes and Jim Hotke.
We have so much to be thankful for in our congregation.
